Will KN Friends fund $425 for a magician for a school age program.

We have our first official funding request:

We have tentatively booked Joe Romano (a magician) for Monday, November 7th at 2:00pm for a school-age program (ages 6-12.) November 7th is a FCPS teacher work day so the kids will be out of school that day. Joe Romano charges $425.00. I’m writing you to see if we could get approval for funding from the KN Friends for this program. Much thanks!

I apologize for the short turnaround, but the answer is required by COB on August 22nd. As such, the poll closes this Sunday at 11:59pm.

Will the KN Friends provide $425 to fund a magician for a school-age program (ages 6-12) on Monday, November 7th at 2:00pm.

==UPDATE==

Barbara has provided some more details about the event.

Joe Romano has performed at many libraries in FCPL over the years. His shows are well done and well attended. He has several different shows to choose from and we’ve asked for “Books. The Magic is Real” http://shows.ultimateschoolshows.com/Books-the-magic-is-Real.html I’ve seen him at least once at Martha Washington and loved the show. He really engaged the kids and kept their attention throughout the program. He was also here at KN a few years ago. And like the show at MW, the show drew a good crowd and kept the kids engaged.

His shows last about 45 minutes which is typical for school age programs. The price is actually lower than advertised on his website. This is probably due to the fact that he’s performed in our libraries a lot and knows us. It’s also a little more than what most of the Summer Reading performers cost since the summer performers are doing shows as several libraries at a time and give us something akin to a group discount.

    Vote – No. Too much money for a hour of the clown’s time. Having some read to them would be much less expensive.
